Kuster Urges Supreme Court to Allow Live Audio Broadcast of Marriage Equality Decision

Date: June 24, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) has joined with her colleagues Senator Richard Durbin (IL), Senator Chuck Grassley (IA), Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05), and others in sending a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts requesting a live audio broadcast of the Supreme Court's upcoming decisions, including on marriage equality. Congressional hearings and executive branch meetings have long been made available to the American public through live streaming, and Kuster strongly believes the Supreme Court should provide the same opportunity to the American people.

"The Supreme Court is poised to rule on one of the most monumental cases we've seen in decades, and the Court's decision will have far-reaching effects all across the nation. The American people deserve to hear the proceedings firsthand, and to learn about the court's decision in real time," said Congresswoman Annie Kuster. "In an era of unparalleled modern technology, there's no reason why the Court cannot livestream its proceedings and provide the transparency the American people deserve from their Judicial Branch. I was proud to send a letter to Chief Justice Roberts requesting a live audio stream of the Court's proceedings for the first time in history."
